Mike Shur - Executive Coach - Bio
Mike Shur (ENTP) is a very unique Executive Coach with a very different background.
After emigrating from Russia as a child, Mike went on to simultaneously graduate from Brown University with no less than three bachelor degrees.
A quintessential over-achiever, Mike then went on to study law and earned his Juris Doctor from the prestigious New York University Law School.
 Early in his career Mike practiced law, first on Wall Street, and then at IBM.
But his heart was not really into corporate law, and in fact it was quite draining.
Fortunately, in a great company such as IBM there were many career opportunities available to someone with Mike's intelligence, creativity and drive.
IBM offered Mike an opportunity to become one of the first Web Marketing Strategists. This position allowed him to transition from law into web marketing at IBM's storage division.
It was when Hitachi purchased this business from IBM that Mike discovered his knack for Leadership and Development.
He jumped in with both feet and focused on the world-wide launch for Hitachi, forming a team by enlisting top producers from departments as diverse as technical engineers and developers, sales teams and senior executives.
After managing a collaborative team for Hitachi and launching the successful growth of the division, he was ready for the next challenge, and this is where he discovered his true passion in life.
Mike joined a company called Consulting Psychologists Press (CPP) in Mountain View, California.
CPP is one of the world's largest publishers of psychological assessments. They publish the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) which has been taken by more than 100 million people in over 35 languages. It is the leading indicator for career planning, counseling, team building, and leadership development.
At CPP, Mike became the product marketing manager for the MBTI and other personality assessment tools such as the FIRO-B™, CPI®, TKI and Strong®.
He began living and breathing Personality TYPE, learning every tool within reach and then pushing to learn more. He eventually became certified in MBTI®, STRONG, FIRO-B, and CPI 260, and learned about tools like TKI and MBTI®ThinkBox.
As product manager for CPP, Mike collaborated with authors, met the Myers family, and eagerly participated in as many Industry Events and Associations as his personal and business life would allow!
Mike's constant thirst for knowledge, and his desire to apply these tools to real life, led him to become the "product expert" not only for his company, CPP, but also for Type Industry Professionals which included psychologists, counselors, researchers, authors and instructors around the world.
It was while supporting professional users of the MBTI and other career and psychological assessments, Mike found himself drawn to work in the field where he was called on to provide training and coaching to corporate executives, teams and individuals.
It was here that Mike became known as "The Assessment Specialist" and eventually started his own private practice in the field of Executive Coaching, Leadership Training and Development. He is currently the Director of Training and Learning at the Association for Psychological Type International and the Marketing Director for the Bay Area Association for Psychological Type.
As Mike describes in his own words, "As an ENTP (that’s Type Talk for Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving), nothing moves and inspires me more than the opportunity to collaborate with and help people, and the chance to explore new possibilities."
