14) Let’s say my potential career doesn't’t work out, is it ever too late to start college for my “plan b” career?

It is never too late to plan your career or go to plan B.

But, it gets much harder to go to school and to change careers when you get older, so we recommend you "Aim High."

"Aim High" means go for the career that requires the most education. It's easier to drop back and settle for less.

Given a choice between going to college to get a 4 year degree or going to vocational school to become a carpenter, auto mechanic, cosmetologist, tattoo artist, I would always go for the harder one first.

Once you get out of high school and start working in a job, you will start getting used to having money to spend. It will be very hard to quit your day job and become a full time student.

Full time students are usually poor and don't have any extra money to spend.

So go for the most schooling you can get.

15) How does someone know when they need a Career Counselor?

  • If you do not know what you want to be when you grow up you need a career counselor.
  • If you have a job, and you hate it, you need a career counselor.
  • If your job has just been shipped to India or China, you need a career counselor.
  • If on Monday morning, you are not excited to go to work, you need a career counselor.

16) I want to add on to my resume, how could I do that?

We offer an eBook about "How To Write The Perfect Resume" and it even comes with easy to use resume templates.

17) While in college, could I do an apprenticeship or internship for my potential career field or would that be a bad idea?

Yes! Do it!!

I've seen many college students work as interns / apprentices while in college and I think it's a brilliant idea. It helps in so many ways.

I've even seen some high school students who were going into a trade / vocation work as an apprentice while still in high school.

Why is working as an intern so smart?

  • It will help you figure out if you really want to do that type of work.
  • The practical experience will help you become more successful no matter what you end up doing.
  • If you are any good, they will probably offer you a full time job when you graduate.

18) What are the best job searching strategies?

We cover this in the resume eBook eBook about "How To Write The Perfect Resume"

19) How often should I update my resume?

This is also covered in the eBook, but I'll mention this:

You should update your resume:

  • Whenever you change jobs
  • Whenever you accomplish something big
  • Whenever you relocate or change your contact info
  • At least every 3 to 5 years if not sooner
